02 Apr 2012 : Message from Pat Collins for all Youth Members!

Hi all,

As from this season I'll be responsible for the youth coaching within Railway Union. I'm looking forward to developing our young talent within the club and continue to see the children grow as cricketers.

The team managers for this season are as follows

Girls

Under 9/11/13 - Elaine Coburn, Niamh McAlinden, Molly Flanagan

Boys

Under 9's- Ger O'Brien
Under 11's- David Robb
Under 11's- Simon Grehan
Under 15/17/19- Pat Collins

To help with the significant numbers this season the club has ensured that we have a further 6 qualified coaches who completed the level one coaching qualifications in the winter. This will help make a huge different in ensuring that all our youths are getting quality coaching.

The youth sign on date this season will be Friday the 20th of April. There will be an hour of fun games and drills for the youths followed by a BBQ and all the family are invited to come down and have a sausage. If you can't make the above date, there will be a second registration on Sunday the 22nd of April.

This season we have a couple of new initiatives including having a 'mini world cup' on Friday evenings across all sections of the youths, player of the week awards for each age-group, fantastic new playing gear and we are currently in the process of organising a end of season trip. There will also be end of season prize giving for all age groups within the club.

Further training times for the season both when the youths are in school and have summer holidays are to follow.

I'm very much looking forward to a fantastic fun season ahead and hope to see you all soon.

20 Sep 2011 : Ladies are Division 3 Champions

The ladies finished off the season in fine style by wrapping up Division 3 and a promotion with a victory over North Kildare to add to their earlier cup success.  After starting the season at a canter but having a blip in the middle, the ladies were determined to gain promotion after missing out so narrowly last year.  It came down to a rematch of the cup final to decide the league.

On a cold, windy, misty, autumnal morning, the ladies headed down the M4 to Kilcock to take on North Kildare for the third time this season.  Despite the wet conditions, play started on time after Tanya won the toss and chose to set a score.  She opened the batting with Vanessa and they worked hard for their runs with a very slow outfield owing to the long grass and wet weather.  Knowing it would dry up for the second innings, they pushed hard to post a competitive total but boundaries were hard to come by.  With Tanya out and the score on 57-1 after 10 overs, there was no panic.  Vanessa was playing the most stylish shots of her season (must be the bat) and with the capabilities of Jingram, Carol (45*) and Aisling “Biggie Small” Stokes in the batting order, there was no need.  The 20 overs finished with Railway on 115 for 3.

After sending Twitter updates to Pat, the ladies took to the field to defend the total knowing that North Kildare had a strong batting line up and the outfield was drying fast.  The first breakthrough took some time to come but it eventually did from the bowling of Sarah “Little Lambo” Ingram (2-12).  Nothing like a few wickets to perk you up when you’re not well!  The ever reliable Mhairi, Niamh (2-13) and Aisling S bowled very well picking up more wickets and restricting North Kildare to 87 off their 20 overs even giving a cracking catch to skipper MacArthur.  Ailbhe in particular had a busy day in the field.

The ladies finished the season with a percentage of 71.25 and Carol with a batting average of 113.33.  Bring on division 2!

Back Row: Linda Ingram, Laura McSwiney, Vanessa Johnston, Tanya MacArthur (capt), Jennifer Ingram, Carol McKenzie, Aisling Breen, Colette Stokes.

Front Row: Sarah Ingram, Aisling Stokes, Niamh Keenahan, Ailbhe O'Reilly, Mhairi Nicoll, Ciara Finlay.

15 Sep 2011 : Ladies League Comes Down to Final Match
Ladies Division 3 will be decided this weekend as the team travel to Kilcock to take on North Kildare.

After starting the season at a canter, two losses have slowed it down considerably.  This Sunday, the winner of the game will be crowned champions of Division 3.

The Ladies team are hoping to follow the Men's 1xi and 3xi by winning their league and gaining promotion to Division 2.

In a tricky away fixture against a very strong North Kildare side, the Ladies would appreciate all support in Kilcock at 10.30 on Sunday morning.

Sure what else would you be doing?!
